Apple kheer is a delicious kheer or payasam variety that can be churned in very little time and with little effort.
Apple is one fruit which I do not consciously buy or even eat. I guess only some genes are transferred to your kid and this apple aversion is directly transferred to my daughter. She will not eat apples too. But some how these apples find their way into my house . Either my husband buys it or the guests bring it along while they visit us and right now these apples are looking right at me every time I open the door of the refrigerator and I had to use these. Bored of making the usual milkshakes, I was looking at using these apples in some innovative dishes and just then checked out on the theme for this Blogging Marathon and Universe had answered me by suggesting the theme as apple in desserts.
Now my only worry was to distribute these without devouring them . Luckily my aunts who reside near by were more then willing to relish the Apple kheer and were very happy and said that the taste was awesome.
Coming to the dish , it is very simple to make but we need to take care of cooking the apple properly before adding the milk so that the rancidity of the apple does not curdle the added milk. To do this , it is advisable to cook the grated apple thoroughly in the ghee till all the moisture evaporates and later when the milk is added and the apple further gets cooked in the milk, it does not curdle .I have added white sugar here. You can choose to replace the sugar with any sugar free alternatives or jaggery. If you want a kheer which is rich in texture and taste, you can add condensed milk too. I have used saffron to flavour the kheer but we can replace it with cardamom powder too.
So it is time for you to use the apple and make this lovely kheer at home

Remove the skin of the apple, core it and grate it finely |

Heat ghee in a pan, add the grated apple and cook in low flame till all the moisture is evaporated else when the milk is added it might curdle |

Once the apple is cooked well, slowly add the milk and continue to cook in low flame for few minutes. |

Such a healthy payasam with apple.
I definitely want to make the apple kheer now after seeing two posts on it. The kheer looks so festive and creamy and is perfect for the apple season
Reading through two apple kheers is now making me want to make this at the earliest… I just bought a carton of apples last night… in our house, it gets done by eating, thankfully my kids have taken from me with regards to it… ๐
Ah I can’t imagine you not liking apples!…so this apple kheer is surely an interesting way to eat..but then again you didn’t..lucky your relatives!
You not liking a fruit. I guess everyone has an aversion to something. This kheer sounds delicious. Between the 2 of you I have a good enough recipe to bungle through.
You are tempting me to make this rich looking creamy kheer soon, and seriously yours looks ultimate.
My first attempt with apple kheer was not a success. Now after reading two posts on apple kheer, I’m again thinking of giving it a try.
I cant imagine someone not liking something as basic as an apple. But it could be the variety you get there. There are so many varieties of apples here especially if you go to farmers markets. Each stall will usually have at least 10 varieties. I am sure you would find one you would like ๐
i was not fond of apples until I tried a few different varieties. the Khmer looks lovely and those brass cups are awesome!
Somehow even I donโt like apples , but surprisingly I loved apple kheer when I made it sometime back . It is actually a good way to eat apples .
Same pinch ,we just tried the same recipe.. And i know how delicious Apple kheer is.. Lovely clicks ๐
