We love sabudana. Especially the Maharashtrian style kichadi. I make thaleepth too. But the best is the javvarisi payasam that I make for many festivals. I love the payasam where jaggery is used instead of sugar. Since I love to cook in my nutripot wherein you do not have to babysit while it is cooking, I cooked this creamy javvarisi payasam in this electric pressure cooker. Cooking in this is anyway very quick but at the same time, we can multitask too.

When the event vrat special #faralatdesibloggersconnect was announced on the facebook group, I decided to cook this payasam in the electric pressure cooker. I feel the flavour is more when cooked in a pressure cooker

USE OF ELECTRIC PRESSURE COOKER

There is always resistance to change. Usually, we do not like to change the way traditional recipes are cooked. I for one take time to evaluate any new appliance and then go for it. It took me around 2 years to get hooked on to electric pressure cookers. I have seen quite a few videos as am convinced that this will be helpful in my day today cooking like my microwave or air fryer, I use most of the gadgets simultaneously to cook the wide variety of food.

Instapot or nutripot is one of the best buys to date. The ease of cooking is what I like in it the most. But I also realised that not many south Indian recipes are cooked or documented in instapot. More so I do not see much of our Indian brand wonderchef Nutripot. Hence I will be documenting as many south Indian recipes as possible in instapot/Nutripot. I hope it will be useful for new users.

Creamy javvarisi payasam in Nutripot

There are many restrictions when you cook for vrat. You can use sago pearls and cardamom. Here is a list of items you can use during vrat or fasting. I soaked the sago pearls for over an hour. Then pressured cooked it in the instapot. Later add the milk, boiled for a few minutes. Added the jaggery and the creamy payasam is ready to be offered as prasad. The same payasam can be cooked on the stove top too. Here is the recipe for stovetop javvarisi payasam

A quick video of cooking creamy javvarisi payasam in wonderchef nutripot

Steps

1
Done

Wash the sago pearls/ Javvarisi well. Wash it at the least 3 times till the water is clear of the white powder sediment. Drain the water completely

2
Done

Transfer this to the pot on an instapot.

3
Done

Pour 1 cup water and let it soak for an hour in the nutripot itself without switching it ON

4
Done

Now switch ON the nutripot.

5
Done

Add 2 cups of milk. Mix well

6
Done

Close the lid. Keep the vent in seal position.

7
Done

Press the manual button and time it for 4 minutes.

8
Done

After 4 minutes it will automatically go to keep warm mode. CANCEL IT.

9
Done

Let the pressure release naturally

10
Done

Now add the cardmom powder and jaggery and mix well. (Since the jaggery here has impurities , i always dissolve it in little water, strain it and then only use)

11
Done

Check for consistency. If you need thicker payasam cook it in saute mode for few minutes. This payasam will thicken on cooling.

12
Done

Heat the ghee and add cashews , saute for a minute. When it starts to brown add the raisins and wait for it to plump up. Now pour this on the prepared payasam and offer it as a neivedhyam
