Phool Makhana or puffed lotus seeds is used in many recipes such as makhana kheer, makhana raita and as a snack in this masala phool makhana

Masala Phool Makhana

Phool Makhana or roasted foxnuts is known for its health benefits especially in ayurveda. These roasted nuts when puffed up make an excellent snack for children and adults alike. Here are some health benefits of these nuts

They are low in cholesterol and hence makes a perfect snack

It is high in protein

Low glycemic index and hence suggested for diabetics too

Its use is said to lower blood pressure too

They are low in calories and hence aids in weight loss

It is also used in treating insomnia and irritability

With so many health benefits listed and the taste which is more like popcorn, I was sure the kid will love it ans I was pleasantly surprised that the kids and the adults in a recent together snacked generously on this.

When Valli announced the kids anniversary party, I was checking on recipes which kids love .

Masala Phool Makhana is my first entry as any kid who loves popcorn would surely love this.Since it is not oily, snacking on it is not messy and hence is perfect for a party.

Steps

Heat ghee in a wide pan and roast the phool makhana for 10 minutes in low flame, stirring regularly. You will see that after 10 minutes the puffed seeds would be more crisp.

Now add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, chat masala and salt to this and mix well.Coo f in low flame for 3 minutes. SwiTch off the fire.

Let it cool down a little and then serve the snack or transfer it to an airtight container to retain its crispiness

I didn’t know phool makhana is good for treating insomnia. I am getting phool makhana next time I do my groceries! Masala makhana is tempting and I guess it is a health snack as well.

I have been kicking myself in the back for not having tried phool makhana. This looks so delicious and it would be perfect for snacking. I am not postponing it anymore especially after seeing your beautiful clicks.

We also love this but it has been a while since I made this. Thanks for reminding me of this absolute classic. Also thanks for the tip about treating insomnia with this.
