|1 cup Omavalli illai|
|2 Green chillies|
|2 Red chillies|
|1/2 cup Tuvar dal|
|2 tsp Oil|
|1/2 tsp Mustard seeds|
|1 tsp Gram dal|
|1 tsp black gram dal|
|1/2 tsp Asafoetida|
|Few Curry leaves|
|1 tbsp Coriander leaves|
Omavalli ilai or ajwain leaves have a distinct flavour and medicinal values. Our cuisine does use this extensively. Omavalli illai paruppu kadaiyal is a dal with the mild flavour of ajwain leaves
Cook the dal in pressure cooker till soft. Mash well.
Cut chillies and tomatoes finely
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and when it crackles, add the gram dal, black gram dal, chillies and saute for minute.
Now add the asafoetida, and tomatoes and saute till it becomes mushy.
Now add the finely cut ajwain leaves and saute till it becomes soft
Now add the mashed dal, salt and curry leaves and coriander leaves and boil everything together for few minutes
Serve hot with rice and curry
