Poached pear in plum sauce sounds so exotic isn’t it? I felt it too and wanted to see if I could cook this at home. While browsing a facebook group UBF, I happened to see this exotic dessert. Instead of just drooling at the picture, I decided to try it immediately especially when I had my son who vounteered to be the guinea pig…well well, not actually. I think he liked it too.

I came across this poached pear recipe by a restaurateur Nanda Gopa Rao. He has cooked this simple pear and presented it in a most exotic way and cooked it in the most simple way anyone would even imagine. Yes, this is entirely cooked in a pressure cooker and in a very short time  and  I have reproduced it exactly the way it is cooked by Nanda gopa rao.

We get different types of pears. Like the soft pear with green skin, the one with the red colour skin and our own Indian variety. Of the the lot I like the Indian variety as it gives little crunchiness with every bite. For this recipe I have used the red skinned one.

We all know the various benefits of eating fruits and here are some benefits of eating pears:-

  1. Pears are high in vitamin C and vitamin K content and hence are helpful in fighting against free radicals
  2. It is rich in fibers and hence is helps us against heart diseases and stroke.
  3. It is said to fight against cancer too
  4. It is low in glycemic index and high in fiber and hence is said to regulate the blood sugar levels .
  5. It helps in preventing gall bladder problems
  6. It’s anti inflammation property helps in reducing inflamattion
  7. it helps to regain glowing skin and lustrous hair.

Peel the skin of the pear. If the skin is very soft, then peeling is optional

Place everything in a 2 lt pressure cooker and close the lid and put the weight on and cook it on high flame upto 11 whistles

Switch it off and let the pressure release .

Open the cooker, carefully take out the pear, place
it on the serving dish, drizzle the sauce and serve it with a scoop of icecream
