- 6 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tbsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp Bengal gram dal
- 1 tbsp black gram dal
- 1 tsp Asafoetida
- 8 Green chillies
- 1/4 Cup Peanuts
- Handful Curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 3 cups Semolina
- To Taste Salt
Cut the green chillies finely
Heat oil in a pan and when sufficiently hot add the chopped green chillies and saute till it starts to discolour.
Next, add the mustard seeds and once it starts to splutter add the black gram and Bengal gram dal and saute for a minute in medium flame.
Now add the peanuts, asafoetida and saute for few seconds.
Now add the curry leaves and saute till the leaves become crisp
Now add the turmeric and semolina and saute for 2 minutes in low flame
Switch off the fire and add salt.
Mix well and store in a cool place
TO PREPARE THE UPMA
Add 1 ¾ cup of boiling water to 1 cup of semolina mix, cover and cook till done in a low flame.
Adding vegetables will definitely enhance the taste.It is not mandatory though.
