Tomato Tovve

A simple and a comforting dal from Karnataka.
INGREDIENTS
Toor
dal
1/2 cup
Garlic
2 cloves
Red
chilli powder
2tsp
Jaggery
1/2 tsp
To be roasted and ground
Jeera
1tsp
Mustard
1tsp
Fenugreek seeds
1/2tsp
Coriander seeds
3tsp
SEASONING
Oil
2tsp
Mustard seeds
1tsp

Cook toordal with enough water a nd pinch of oil and a drop of oil
in a cooker till soft
Cut tomatoes and garlic into small
pieces
Heat oil in a pan and when sufficiently
hot add mustard seeds, when it splutters add the cut garlic and saute for a few
minutes till a good aroma comes out
Now add the cut tomatoes, salt and saute
till the tomatoes become soft
Now add the ground powder, red chilli
powder, tamarind juice and jaggery and mix well. Continue to cook in low flame

Now add the cooked dal , mix everything
and bring it to a boil. Switch off and serve with rice
