Yes…I have graduated from alphabets to Nursery rhymes:-)
Today under the baking theme for the alphabet H, it is these delicious hot cross buns.
A hot cross bun is a spiced sweet bun made with currants or raisins and marked with a cross on the top, traditionally eaten on Good Friday
INGREDIENTS
All purpose flour 2 cups
Instant yeast 2tsp
Sugar 1/3 cup
Warm milk 1/2 cup
Butter(softened) 1/4 cup
Cinnamon powder 1/4 tsp
Clove powder 2pinches
Black raisins 1/2 cup
Salt 1/2 tsp
FOR THE CROSS
All purpose flour 1/4 cup
Sugar 2tsp
Water 1tbsp
INGREDIENTS
Melt the butter for 10 seconds in a microwave
Comine the warm milk, butter and sugar, salt and stir well
Mix the flour, cinnamon powder, clove powder,Raisins and the yeast in a wide mouhed bowl
Add the milk mixture to the flour and knead it into a smooth dough
Transfer this to a wooden board and knead it for 10 minutes into a smooth pliable dough
Place the dough in a well oiled bowl. Cover it and let it rest for 1 1/2 hrs or till it doubles in volume
Take out the dough, make small buns and place it on a parchment paper or on a buttered tray
Let it rise for 45 minutes
Make a smooth paste with all purpose flour, sugar and water for the cross. The consistency should be that it can be piped. Add water as required.
Transfer this batter to a piping bag and pipe and pipe cross on each bun
Preheat the oven to 190C
bake these buns for 20-25 minutes
Transfer it to a wire rack and brush them with butter
Serve warm
