Vellarikai Dosai / Cucumber Dosai

A very good morning:-)
A little prelude to why I came up with this blog post!!!!
A typical day/night scenario at my home……..
It is 10 PM. Everyone is busy/relaxing in front of one screen or the other.Veena missing in action..
KK(shouts):Veena……..blogging again?????
Me::-( I wish!!!!Planning for tomorrow’s menu(frantically searching for some key ingredients)
Me(to my daughter):What do you want for breakfast?????
Daughter: Anything mom……..
Me:This sounds trouble…..
Idli?
Daughter:NO
Me:Pongal
Daughter: NO NO NO
Me: upma?
Daughter: NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Me: Dosai????????
Daughter: Yup…….but not the regular one
Me: ah!trouble again:-(
MY mom calls now: Veena…had dinner?
Me: yes ma
Mom: What for breakfast?
Me: You too
As a dutiful daughter I listen, prepare it and serve with all the apprehension in the world and wait till they taste it
Daughter; Mom…….yummmmmm, very nice
Me: :-)….all smiles….Today seems to be good!!!
Mom calls again: veena…how was it?
Me: They loved it ma..thank you
Mom:I knew it…You should prepare a variety veena, not the same usual stuff!!
Me: Huh!!!Today is not a great day indeed:-(….
Anyway…..this ritual in my house is a regular affair and my mom seems to be my eternal saviour!!!!!Since Valli announced the theme for this marathon both my daughter and my mom seem to be very happy…….Am I??????yup…learning new recipe:-)
INGREDIENTS
Raw rice 1 cup
Cucumber 1 (big)
Grated coconut 1/2 cup
Green chilli 2
Salt to taste
PREPARATION
Soak the rice in water for 2 hours
Peel the cucumber. Taste to see the bitterness. Remove the seeds and chop it very finely.
Drain the rice and grind all the ingredients together. The Batter will not be very smooth.Add enough water while grinding to make the batter a little runny. If it is thick , it will not be possible to spread the dosa.
Heat and grease a non-stick tava with oil.
Pour a ladleful of the batter on the tava and spread it using a circular motion, to make a thin dosai, keeping it in very low flame
Drizzle a little oil on the sides and cook.
When the lower side turns a little brown. turn over and cook on the other side
Repeat with the remaining batter to make those yummy dosas
Serve hot with chutney.
If you have a picky eater at home like my daughter, try this…all probability that they will like it:-)
