Puli Aval

Puli aval is cooked quite regularly in a south Indian home and it is served as a breakfast in my home.The tangy taste due to the tamarind and the minimum quantity of oil , makes it a perfect breakfast.You can prepare it within 20 minutes too…Perfect for me:-)
INGREDIENTS
Thick Aval/Poha 1 cup
Tamarind 1 small marble sized
Water 1cup
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
FOR TEMPERING
Mustard seeds 1tsp
Black gram dal 1/2 tsp
Bengal gram dhal 1tsp
Peanuts 1tbsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Red chillies 7-8
Curry leaves few
Oil 2tsp
Salt to taste
PREPARATION
Soak tamarind in 1 cup of warm water for 10 minutes. squeeze the extract and keep aside
Wash the aval, squeeze it.
Add the tamarind extract and turmeric powder to a bowl. Mix well. Add the aval to this, mix well and let it soak in it for 10 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. When it splutters, add both the dhal’s, saute, next goes in redchillies, asafoetida and turmeric powder. Conyinue to saute in low flame for a minute adding peanuts. Next add the curry leaves and soaked aval
Mix everything evenly, sprinkle salt. mix well. Switch off the fire and serve!!
