I am part of a new blogging group called as A-Z recipe challenge. This is the brain child of Jolly Makkar and Vidya Narayan. Here every alternate month we are required to cook one recipe , the name of the recipe should start with an alphabet which is chosen alphabetically. For this month , it is the alphabet C and cabbage chutney is my contribution to the theme.

Cabbage Chutney

Cabbage Chutney

This chutney is a spicy chutney where in we use cabbage, onions and tomatoes. This chutney can be used with idli/Dosai or with rice.A very simple chutney to make and I like it the best when it is served with hot rice, ghee and appalaam

Steps

1
Done

Slice the onions . Cut the cabbage and tomatoes into small pieces

2
Done

Heat oil in a pan. Put the mustard seeds. Once it splutters, put the black gram dal and saute till it starts to brown.

3
Done

Now add the cut onions and saute till it becomes transparent. Add the cabbage and saute till it is well cooked. Then add the tomatoes , chillies and cook till the tomatoes become mushy

4
Done

Now transfer all this to the mixer jar. Add the tamarind and salt. Grind it to a smooth paste ans serve with hot rice or idli, dosai

I love this chutney. I also make the same way. It tastes heavenly with dosa and Idli. Not many people know about this chutney. When I made this first time at my in law’s place, they were surprised with the flavor and taste. Lovely capture 🙂
