Winter and green peas masala is a lovely combination. I know. I am aware of the fact that we do not have any specific winter season in Chennai. However, the heat is much less during this season. One more fact is that our market also boasts of the winter produce. Thanks to the good transport and refrigerating system, we do get produce not native of our state. One of that being fresh green peas.
Though the dried green peas are always available for us, I personally feel that the fresh ones are the best for subzi. The dried one go well with Sundal which we make during Navaratri.
Green peas masala is a quick subzi which does not need much preparation. This can be prepared in under 20 -30 minutes. All you need is that the ingredients are fresh. You can also make this Peas Masala
Ingredients used in green peas masala: –
The main ingredient in this subzi is the green peas. I would prefer to use the fresh ones when in season. However, you could also use the frozen ones.
The other ingredients being onion, tomato and the spice powders. It is always preferable to use the ones which are fresh to get the best taste and flavour of this dish.
How can this delectable side this be served?
This subzi is best served warm with a roti, Phulka or any bread of our choice. I have served it with the Phulka made with sourdough discard.

Green peas sabji is a regular in my home but I’ve not made it with onion tomato gravy. I must give it a try. Love the thick gravy and all the spices that have gone into it.
This is so perfect for winter when we have tons of fresh green peas. I made it with frozen green peas and it was so quick and easy to make. Boys loved it with puri.
Fresh green peas are in season right now, and I love the use of the blended masala. So I’m making some for our dinner right now with rotis it will taste awesome.
