Very inviting Veena, and wonderful ideas too! When I thought of Steamed Meals, I didn’t have any idea and you guys are coming up with awesome choice!




Vibha loves these steamed snacks. She will prefer to have this as a complete meal too. Usually I make these with rice flour and this Thinai Maavu mani kozhukkatai is a millet based steamed savoury snack. The process is very similar to the mani kozhukkatai and you can make this in a very short time. Perfect if you have sudden visitors
Thinai maavumani kozhukkatai is a very healthy snack. Since it is made from a millet flour and it is steamed, it is recommended for diabetics too. I include millet in my menu very regularly. I feel it is much tastier and healthier than white rice. The process of making these kozhukkatais is similar to the ones that I have prepared with the rice flour. You need a little more water since this dough tends to dry out faster

Boil the water. Add salt to it , mix well. Now pour it on the flour. Mix well. Let it rest for few minute |

Make tiny balls from the dough |

Prepare the steamer and transfer the balls to the steamer plate and steam for 7-8 minutes. Let it cool completely |

Now heat oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds. Now it crackles, add the dal, asafoetida, green chillies and curry leaves. Saute for few seconds. |

Add the steamed balls, mix well . Sprinkle the karamadhu podi, salt if necessary, mix well, saute for a minute on low flame. Switch off the fire and serve warm |

Thats an interesting and healthy twist to the usual popular mani kozhukattais, feel like having some rite now.
That is a wonderful idea for a steamed dish!!
Making the kozhukkatta more healthier… would love to have this with a cup of steaming hot chai!
MMm love it. I made it once with rice flour and the girls were convinced I was feeding them mothballs. Must make them again.
Never tried anything savory with thinai so far!!! Interesting use of thinai,this mani kozhukattai sounds so delicious!!!
