Crackers in my young age meant, something very buttery melt in the mouth types. I wouldn’t turn and look if my mother offered me crackers baked with ragi flour. I never liked Ragi though I grew up in Karnataka. All I wanted was something yummy and delicious preferably deep fried. If that was not available I would not mind munching on biscuits which were store bought.  But as I grew up, I knew what was important to me and at this age, we have switched to healthy eating habits which is more a necessity now. So switching to healthy baking is essential too. One step towards that is with this whole wheat ragi crackers.

Whole wheat Ragi crackers

Around eleven in the afternoon is when the bell starts to ring in the stomach. We prefer to have some ginger lemon tea then. But something we do feel like munching on some crispies and so I need to have such crackers. These whole wheat ragi crackers are very healthy and I would say delicious too. There is no baking powder or soda added to it. I have used only olive oil. You can replace that with butter too. This dough is very easy to make and the whole process takes hardly 45-50 minutes. We can add different healthy flours to it and make as many variations as possible. A few crackers and a cup of te should satisfy our hunger pangs till we et out lunch. We can also bake the other crackers like whole wheat millet crackers, Crunchy carom crackers, and Savoury oats crackers

Steps

1
Done

Preheat the oven to 175C

2
Done

Line the baking tray with parchment paper

3
Done

Toast the sesame seeds till brown and keep aside

4
Done

Mix the flours, sesame seeds, salt in a bowl. Add olive oil and mix well. It will resemble the bread crumbs at this stage

5
Done

Now add 1/4 cup water and start kneading it. Add more water if necessary to form a soft pliable dough. Keep it covered for 15 minutes

6
Done

Roll it out into a thin circle and cut as desired. Place the pieces on the prepared tray and bake for 10-12 minutes or till it becomes crisp.

7
Done

Transfer it to a cooling rack and let it cool completely. Store in an air tight container

Loved this, jingling in the stomach at 11:00, so true. But If I get such delicious and healthy crackers, I would love to have that jingling :-).

I am still averse to ragi .-p But you are enticing me with these crispy crackers. Lovely pictures and cheers to healthy living 😀

I was expecting a complicated recipe but this one is quite easy to make. It sounds similar to namak para but with a very healthy twist to it. A savory cracker flavored with olive oil paired with masala chai would brighten up my snack time any day 🙂

I would grinch at Ragi Mudde or anything made with Ragi, growing up too! but yes, as you said age puts a binding on many ingredients and this one is so healthy and yummy… great pics…

Wow! Such a simple recipe for ragi ? I must try it out for sure. I cannot say that the kids will like it but I am definitely going to love these.

I need to use ragi flour in my kitchen, I guess I seldom use it because of its earthy flavor. These crackers look so crispy and tasty.
