With the festival season fast approaching, especially Navarathri, we are preparing for the golu and the prasadam for the golu . Sundal and golu are inseparable. For those who do not know what golu means, it the the display of dolls mostly of gods and goddess which are handed down to the next generation. Here the pooja of the goddess lakshmi, durga saraswathi is performed in the morning and evening the ladies are invited over for manjal kumkumum over the nine days and sundal is distributed to everyone who visits the golu. This year my addition to the sundal list will be this butter beans sundal.
This week the suggested theme was Bean affair for Foodie monday bloghop and I chose to make this delicious buttery sundal with butter beans. The taste and flavour is very nice and the texture is buttery. Very easy to prepare for navarathri.
Add just enough water to the beans and salt. Pressure cook this upto 4 whistles. They should be soft but not mushy. I add water till the level of beans.
Drain out extra water if any.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard and once it starts spluttering, add the dal and asafoetida. Saute for a minute and add the chillies.
Now add the cooked dal , the necessary salt and mix well. Saute for fe minutes on low flame. Switch off the fire. Add fresh coconut and mix well. Now offer as neivedyam and then serve it to others
