1 Tomato
1/2 cup Pomegranate pearls
1 tsp Lemon juice
2 tbsp Coriander
3/4 tsp Chaat masala Add more if you like the flavour

Do you like salads or you think it is boring. Well, it is boring only when it just cut veggies put together. Flavour it with masala , add some tanginess , add some colour to it and you have a tantalizing salad like this Chickpea pomegranate salad

There are numerous benefits of using kala channa, such as:-

  1. It aids in weight loss since it contain high amount of soluble and insoluble fiber.
  2. It is said to minimise the narrowing of arteries since reduces the risk of heart attacks and stroke.
  3. It aids in reducing the cholesterol level in the blood
  4. It is low in glycemic index and helps to stabilise the blood sugar level.
  5. It is rich in Protein and Iron content

These benefits are more than enough for us to include the desi kala channa in our menu. Either we make salads, or we make into subzi or sundal, the benefits from eating this are numerous.

Since I wanted to bring in a hint of sweetness to the salad, I used pomegranate. The combination of cooked chickpea, raw onions and tomato, sweet pomegranate, the hint of tanginess from the lemon and the lovely flavour of the chat masala makes this salad very delicious. Be it summer or rainy season, these salads are all time favourites. Have a bowl of a soup and a bowl of salad and you are good to go during the meal time. You can vary the vegetables used. Add carrots and cucumber and it gives a different taste. Substitute the pomegranate with pear or apples to give a completely different taste to this salad . Instead of the chat masala you can add the middle eating spice powder. The variations are numerous.I loved having a bowl of this chickpea pomegranate salad. Try this out, you will love too

Chickpea pomegranate salad



Soak dried kala channa or chickpeas in enough water overnight


Drain the water, wash it well. Now cook this in the pressure cooker with enough water and salt for 4 whistles. Let it cool completely. Drain and keep aside


Cut the onion, tomato and coriander finely


In a bowl add the cooked and completely drained channa, pomegranate, onion, tomato, lemon juice , coriander and the necessary slat. Mix well and enjoy your bowl of goodness
