|1/2 cup Tuvar dal|
|2 tbsp Bengal gram dal|
|1 tbsp Ghee|
|1/2" piece Ginger|
|1 clove Garlic|
|3 Dry red chillies|
|1/4 th tsp Turmeric powder|
|1 tsp Chilli powder|
|1 tsp Daniya powder|
|1 tsp Jeera powder|
|1 tsp Garam masala|
|2 tbsp coriander|
|1/2 tsp Cumin seeds|
|Salt to taste|
There are numerous recipes for Dal tadka but I love this simple dal . This dal is very simple and i would say is a comfort food. Hot dal can be served with roti or rice and it equally tastes good. The necessary protein for a vegetarian can be had by eating this dal tadka. I have used arhar dal or tuvar dal and bengal gram dal.
We can change the quantities and add massor dal, and moong dal too. By varying the quantity of the dal used, we can change the flavour and taste ina subtle way. Flavoring agents like kasoori methi , coriander is again left to your choice.
Soak both the dals togther in a bowl with enough water for 20 mins.
Now drain the water, add fresh water to this and cook in pressure cooker upto 4 whistles.It will have cooked well and become mushy
Cut the onion , tomato, ginger and garlic finely
Heat the ghee in a pan, add cumin seed. Once it startes to sizzle, add the garlic and ginger and saute for few seconds
Now add the cut onions and saute till it becomes transparent.Add cut tomatoes and continue to cook till it becomes mushy
Now add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, daniya powder, jeera powder and mix well. Cook on low flame for 2 minutes
To this add the cooked and mashed dal. Mix well. Add the garam masala and salt to this and continue to cook for few minutes till a good flavour emanates. Switch off the fire, add the coriander leaves, mix well and serve warm
