Rajasthani cuisine is not very regular in my house. Well, I should say that this is the first recipe in my blog too. Wonder why I kept myself away from cooking other cuisines. Anyway, there is always a first and today I cooked my first dish from Rajasthani cuisine, the Rajasthani Dal Dhokli.

Rajasthani dal dhokli

For this month, the chosen theme of shhh cooking secretly was Rajasthan cuisine and I have been paired with Archana who blogs at The Mad Scientist kitchen. Hop over to her blog and the first thing that will strike any reader is her simple and healthy recipes for the elderly and her Goan delicacies. For this theme, she suggested that I cook with moong and Kasuri methi. Well with so much of diet restrictions, The best dish I could think of was this Rajasthani dal dhokli. While I gave her the most common of ingredients -Besan and curds. She came up with this very delicious Pithore ki subzi. You can check out her post to know more about the subzi.

Rajasthani Dal Dhokli

Rajasthani dal dhokli is the Indian pasta. The pasta here is in the form of discs. The pasta or dhokli is made of wheat flour and gram flour. Gujarati Dal Dhokli is a little different I must say. this would be a complete meal for me, esp with the fresh onions on top 🙂 totally yum !

Dal dhokri is a very common dish at my home as we simply love it. I see that the Rajasthani version is quite different, for one the different dals used and secondly the addition of kasuri methi. I’m definitely going to try out this version as it looks so yum.

I make both the Gujarati version of dal dhokli and the Maharashtrian version. Your nutripot version of Rajasthani dal dhokri with mixed dals sounds a complete meal to me.

Rajasthani dal dhokli in nutri pot loks super tempting. We make the gujarati version, but did not try this one. Looks like a must try.

Ah, another Nutripot recipe, so I must try it out on my little Nutripot too! I haven’t made dal dhokli before, but just 2 days ago had it for the first time at a Rajasthani friends house. I really enjoyed it and will try out your recipe soon.

I had dal-dhokli for the first time in Baroda and always thought it to be a Gujarati dish but being neighbor states; so many dishes are common between Gujarat and Rajasthan cuisine. I love dal-dhokli… it is so comforting and delicious. Haven’t had in many years and your recipe is making me want to make some for myself!
