Hi, I tried this recipe and it’s perfect. Thank you. I wish I could add onion to this recipe. If yes, when and how to add?
Instant rava upma mix is a boon to every homemaker. It is very useful for people on the move, the avid travellers who long for Indian food in a foreign land. The student community will also benefit from such instant homemade Rava upma mice and other instant mixes, which makes cooking very easy.
I know many of us do not really look forward to rava upma for breakfast. I feel it has been defamed by named by not cooking properly. People either cook it lumpy or very soggy. This makes the homemade rava upma look very unpalatable. However, we do not mind having rava upma or rava kichadi while we visit Saravana Bhavan or any other restaurant. Have you ever wondered as to why it is so?. Well, I always feel that the upma needs the right amount of oil/ ghee, vegetables and ratio of water to that appetising bowl of rava upma.
Next question would be, why do we need an instant mix for the upma. While cooking the upma itself does not take much time, it is having all the ingredients and the will to cook it early in the morning. When we are short of time, it is definitely a boon to have instant mixes. Some of the mixes which come very handy are this instant rava upma mix, instant Pongal mix, instant adai mix, instant paruppu usili mix and instant Gujarati dal mix.
Store-bought mixes are very helpful when we are not able to make homemade mixes. However, the store-bought mixes will have preservatives. These preservatives are added to increase shelf life. I basically am trying to avoid as much as store-bought processed food. With this easy instant rava upma mix recipe, I feel there is no need to buy the store-bought ones.
The basic ingredients for this homemade upma mix is a good quality of rava/ semolina. With simple tempering ingredients which are available at home we can easily make this upma mix.
