Ragi/ Finger Millet the wonder grain

Ragi or finger millet is a wonder grain, a whole grain. These whole grains and superfoods are making a comeback into our diet again. Thanks to the researchers. We now are again weaning off from the processed food for good. Ragi or Nachni is a staple in Karnataka. I have grown up eating ragi muddhe. Of course, this dish may not appeal to many. My family is not a great fan of this dish. So I include ragi in kanjee like Zan which is porridge from the state of Arunachal Pradesh. I make Ragi dosai Some time I make these healthy finger millet crackers to munch in the tea time. I also use finger millet pasta and today it is a very healthy breakfast of healthy quick Ragi vermicelli upma.

Why finger millet and not the regular vermicelli may be the question you want to ask. Since both of us at home are off any kind of processed food, regular vermicelli which is made from maida is off our diet. But KK is a pucca south Indian in his eating habits. He cannot wean away from his regular upma, idli dosai and Pongal. So taking his taste into account, I have prepared this upma in the same way as we prepare the regular semiya upma.

Healthy Quick Ragi Vermicelli upma in Instapot

Healhy ragi vermicelli upma

Instapot or the Indian wonderchef Nutri-pot is a boon to me. Cooking the dishes in this is hassle-free. You do not have to be worried and keep checking if the dish would burn or char. Of course, sometimes it is likely to happen if proper care is not taken. Making this upma took exactly 6 minutes. I have included a lot of vegetables as we like it that way. Feel free to choose the vegetables you would like to add or remove.

You can make the same upma with other millet as well. Now we get all the millet noodles in the market. Try this with various millets and give me a shout out if you have tried it and like it

This healthy quick Ragi Vermicelli upma is my contribution to Healthy Wellthy Cuisine where Shalu Jain chose vermicelli as the theme for this event. Do check out the recipes by the others members of the group
